He takes over from the firm's current regional head of Asia ex-Japan, who will retire in March 2020 to pursue other interests.

Legg Mason has appointed Andy Sowerby to a new, expanded role as head of Asia Pacific ex-Japan, which aims at further strengthening the firm's presence across the region, the global diversified asset management firm announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Effective October 1, Sowerby will keep his role as country head and managing director for the firm in Australia and New Zealand, a position he has held since 2016. He continues to report to Terry Johnson, head of global distribution and a member of the company’s executive management group.

Sowerby's career spans over 25 years, and he has held a number of senior distribution roles, including board-level experience at both Investec Asset Management and Legg Mason investment affiliate Martin Currie.

Regional Head Retires

Lenny Lim, current regional head of Asia ex-Japan, is set to retire in March next year, following a three-decade-long career in the finance industry, including over 12 years at Legg Mason. He will be handing over his duties to Sowerby in the coming months.
