Credit Suisse has appointed a new chief operating officer for its Asia Pacific private banking business effective 1 March.

Alain Bernasconi has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Asia Pacific Private Banking Business, taking over from from Christian Huber this March, Credit Suisse said.  Huber has moved on to Credit Suisse’s Swiss universal bank division to become COO, focusing on private and wealth management clients.

In his new role, Bernasconi will oversee the operational, product and risk aspects of the business across Asia Pacific. He will report to Francois Monnet and Benjamin Cavalli, who are the private banking chiefs for North Asia and South Asia, respectively, and Chien Wong, COO for the overall Asia Pacific division.

Nearly Two Decades

Having been with Credit Suisse for 18 years, Bernasconi is the private bank’s South Asia COO and head and COO of Singapore location. Following the new appointment, he will continue to be the head of Singapore location.

Vik Bali, meanwhile, has been appointed to take over as South Asia and Singapore COO from 1 March. He is currently director and COO for Credit Suisse’s private banking businesses in developed and emerging Asia, as well as COO for Southeast Asia ex-Singapore and frontier markets.
