Singapore’s presidential race sees yet another financial veteran join, this time in the form a former insurance CEO.

Tan Kin Lian has joined Singapore’s 2023 presidential race after submitting his application for a certificate of eligibility, according to a social media post on Sunday. This is the second time he is participating in the city-state’s presidential election, which will be held in September, after coming in last place out of four candidates in 2011.

Tan is a longstanding financial veteran who became the general manager of Singapore-based insurer NTUC Income (now known as Income Insurance) at 29 years of age before subsequently holding the CEO position until 2007. In addition to numerous directorships and other corporate appointments, he was also the ex-chairman of International Co-operative & Mutual Insurance Federation, an international organization that represented 123 insurance groups at the time.

Tan marks yet another finance vet that has decided to join Singapore’s presidential race, in addition to ex-GIC CIO Ng Kok Song and ex-MAS chair Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
