The asset management arm of London-headquartered HSBC has announced the appointment of a chief investment officer for Asia.

HSBC Asset Management appoints Michael Cross as chief investment officer (CIO) for Asia, according to a statement, succeeding Cecilia Chan who has retired from the investment management industry. 

Based in Hong Kong, Cross reports locally to Daisy Ho, CEO for APAC and Hong Kong, as well as functionally to Xavier Baraton, global CIO. Cross will also retain his existing role as global CIO for fixed income.

Cross has over 30 years of experience and first joined HSBC Asset Management in 2015 as global head of official sector institutions before being subsequently named vice chair of institutional business and global CIO of fixed income. Previously, he also worked at the Bank of England and the International Monetary Fund.
