The government of Malaysia requires a former Goldman Sachs banker to return to the country.

Roger Ng, the former banker of Goldman Sachs, is required to return to Malaysia before starting his 10-year prison sentence in the US. The requirement appears after Ng’s scheduled surrender date was delayed by one month to 6 October 2023.

The US district judge Margo Brodie said the delay was due to the fact that they needed more time to talk with the Malaysian government about first letting Ng stand trial on charges there. Ng’s lawyers agreed to the one-month delay, according to the prosecutors.

Very Serious Issue

«The US is also working to ensure that the procedures governing the defendant’s return to Malaysia will not unduly delay the service of his US sentence,» prosecutors said, as reported by Reuters.

However, in a separate letter to Brodie on 6 September, the Malaysian government’s lawyers said the US had backtracked on its commitments regarding Ng’s surrender. The lawyers called the matter a «very serious issue».
