Hong Kong-based Sun Hung Kai & Co. has hired a former Mirae Asset executive as a managing director.

Gary Chan joins Sun Hung Kai & Co. as managing director, investment management, according to a statement. In the role, Chan leads the firm’s private equity team to maximize risk-adjusted returns and diversify exposure by industry and geography.

Chan has more than 25 years of alternative investment and investment banking experience. He was most recently working at Mirae Asset’s Hong Kong-based investments and banking team where he invested across the healthcare, technology, new energy, new consumer and real estate sectors. Previously, he also held senior roles at Barclays, Macquarie and ICBC International. 

Since 1969

Headquartered in Hong Kong, Sun Hung Kai & Co. was established in 1969 and its investment management division was set up in 2015 to focus on alternative investing. As of 31 December 2022, the firm had about HK$43 billion in total assets.

Although it has shared heritage with renowned Hong Kong property developer Sun Hung Kai, they are two unaffiliated entities with separate shareholders and management.
