Hong Kong private equity firm Gaw Capital Partners has hired a new managing director and head of internet data center platform investments.

Kok-Chye Ong joins Gaw Capital Partners as a managing director and head of internet data center (ex-China), according to a statement, effective July 13. 

In his Singapore-Based role, Ong will bee tasked with spearheading IDC platform investments outside of China by building a team and platform. Within China, Gaw Capital has already committed $1.3 billion in investment to IDC platforms since 2019.

Ong has more than 20 years of international experience in data centers, telecom and submarine cable developments projects. He also has a strong track record in fundraising, growth and acquisition of data centers in key Asian and European markets including Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany and the Netherlands.

Prior to joining Gaw Capital Partners, he was most recently the head of strategy and global investments at Keppel Data Centers which owns and operates over 25 data centers across Asia and Europe.

Gaw Capital Partners was founded in 2005 by Hong Kong brothers Goodwin and Kenneth Gaw, managing more than $30 billion in assets under management worldwide.
