Friends Provident International, part of the Aviva Group, has appointed a new managing director for the Hong Kong branch.

Friends Provident International (FPI), a life assurance and investment products provider, named Charles Barrows to replace James Tan, the company said in a statement today.

Tan previously was in charge of FPI’s Hong Kong and Singapore businesses. Tan has decided to leave FPI to pursue other interests. In the new role, Burrows will report directly to Adrian Emery, the London-based chief executive officer of FPI.

Strong Knowledge of Asia

Having been with Aviva for more than 20 years, Burrows has extensive experience in financial services and strong knowledge of Asian markets.

He most recently held the role of CEO of Aviva Hong Kong, and previously of chief financial officer of Aviva Asia. Before that he was in charge of investor relations at Aviva for eight years, based in London.

New Structure

«In our new structure, each FPI branch including Hong Kong, Singapore and United Arab Emirates will take greater responsibility for expanding its customer service, and product and marketing capabilities with governance and oversight being managed centrally across FPI,» said Adrian Emery in the release.

Barrows «long-standing career with Aviva and local knowledge will help grow our business in the high net worth and expatriate spaces.»
