The omnipresence of Asia’s growing wealth continues to be felt, this time as the top contributor to a record first half in luxury auctions at Christie’s.

Clients in Asia were the top contributors to global luxury auctions at Christie's in the first half of 2023, according to a statement, at 38 percent. This was followed by EMEA at 34 percent and the Americas at 28 percent.

Overall, Christie's recorded its best first half ever for luxury auctions with strong results for jewels, watches, handbags and wine totalling $590 million, a 43 percent increase. One of the noteworthy highlights for Asia was in Hong Kong where a rare Chinese moonflask from the 18th century (see image above) realized nearly $13.9 million.
