The first conviction has been delivered to one of the ten arrested suspects in Singapore’s headline money laundering case.

Su Wenqiang has been convicted and sentenced to 13 months imprisonment over two counts of money laundering, according to a statement by the Singapore police.

In total, Su faced 11 charges related to offenses including a forged marriage certificate, false employment declaration and the arrangement for his spouse to obtain an employment pass when she did not have any intention to work in the city-state. Investigations also found Su’s involvement in an unlawful remote gambling business based in the Philippines with proceeds that were used to purchase a Mercedes Benz.

Seized Assets

In total, Singapore police seized assets belonging to Su – a 32-year old Cambodian national – valued at around S$6 million ($4.4 million). This consists of cash, two vehicles, jewelry, luxury items and alcohol.

This marks the first conviction in the headline money laundering case which first began following a police raid in 2023 that led to the arrest of 10 suspects and more than $2.2 billion in total assets seized.
