Ex-Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng has been ordered by a US judge to forfeit tens of millions of dollars in relation to the 1MDB scandal.

Roger Ng was ordered by US District Judge Margo Brodie in Brooklyn to forfeit $35.1 million over his role in the 1MDB scandal, according to «Bloomberg» report citing the ruling.

The forfeiture order follows a 10-year prison sentence in the US delivered earlier this month.

No Money Left?

On March 9, Ng’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo argued against additional penalties because his client had no money left after Malaysian authorities seized all of his assets and accounts as well as those of his family members before being arrested in late 2018. Brodie declined, at the time, to immediately order forfeiture but turned down Agnifilo’s argument on March 24.

«Ng has failed to show that forfeiture would destroy his future livelihood. The fact that he already paid a large sum to the Malaysian government does not, on its own, render the forfeiture amount constitutionally excessive,» the judge said.

«[W]e are appealing several issues, including the court’s recent forfeiture ruling. Nothing has shaken our belief in Mr. Ng’s innocence and we will fight this as long as necessary,» Agnifilo said in a statement.
