Hong Kong leader John Lee shrugged off the «small number» of guests who did not attend the city’s widely anticipated financial summit.

Hong Kong’s Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit saw Citi chief executive Jane Fraser, Blackstone president Jonathan Gray and Capital Group CEO Timothy Armour miss the event due to Covid. Barclays CEO C. S. Venkatakrishnan also pulled out due to a change of itinerary.

Nonetheless, local leader John Lee remained upbeat and called the loss «just a small number».

«What we have seen now is that more than 200 people will attend and that is within our expectation,» according to an «SCMP» report citing Lee at a press conference before an executive council meeting. «Hong Kong is full of vigor and energy.»

Separately, financial secretary Paul Chan also tested positive for Covid during his trip to Riyadh but managed to recover and return to Hong Kong in time for the event which publicly kicks off today.
