He joins the Singapore-headquartered payments start-up at a time when the company is looking to push the frontiers on digital payments and has bold plans for expansion in the coming years.

Aleta Planet, a fintech formerly known as MoovPay, has appointed Stephen Richards Evans as its regional CEO for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), effective immediately, it announced on Tuesday.

Evans brings over three decades of experience at several major banks in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. He joins from Coutts & Co, London, where he the firm’s international arm as managing director. He was previously senior adviser at wealth boutique Seignosse Capital, and held a number of roles at Standard Chartered, HSBC and Lloyds in Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai.  

In his new role, Evans will help drive product growth for Aleta Planet in EMEA and spearhead new markets in the West.

Expansion plans

Founded in 2014 by former senior banker Ryan Gwee, Aleta Planet has offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and Dubai, and plans to expand to five new markets within the next two years.

Earlier this year, the company hired two finance industry stalwarts to help drive business growth as it expands its product line and ventures into new markets. It also partnered UnionPay to enable Chinese travelers to Singapore and Singaporeans visiting China to make digital payments with their mobile phones.
