An international law firm bolstered its practice in China by hiring a new partner for labor and corporate law – and is looking to hire several more by year-end.

Simmons & Simmons, a law firm, said it is rehiring Matthew Durham in Shanghai as a partner. Durham trained and qualified as a soliciter while at the law firm in 1998.

As Asia veteran, he joins from Winston & Strawn, where he most recently was a partner in their Shanghai and Beijing offices.

Durham has worked on labour, employment and corporate law issues in China since 1999, in sectors including drug manufacturers, retailers and insurance.

Still Hiring in China

His rehire is part of an expansion under Fiona Loughrey, head of employment in Asia. She expects to hire at least five new lawyers by year-end.

«Matthew's experience across such a broad range of sectors, including pharmaceutical and medical devices, demonstrates our commitment to our sector focus as a firm,» Loughrey said.

The law firm also recently added to its China corporate and commercial practice by hiring Michael Chin as a partner from Hogan Lovells last month as well as Jingyuan Shi, promoted to partner level in May.
