Singapore-based OCBC’s private banking arm has hired a former UBS executive to lead legal and regulatory compliance.

Bank of Singapore appoints Samuel Huen as global head of legal and regulatory compliance, according to a statement, effective October 2. He will report to CEO Jason Moo and also join the private bank's management commitee as a member.

In the role, Huen will be responsible for legal and regulatory risks across Bank of Singapore and its subsidiaries globally in Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Luxembourg, UK, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Huen assumes the responsibilities of global head of legal Eric Teh and global head of regulatory compliance Adriel Loh. Teh will retire in 2024 and continue to act as an advisor until March next year to ensure a smooth transition. Loh will remain with OCBC and focus on his role as group head of regulatory compliance.

18 Years at UBS

Huen is a Singaporean national joining from UBS where he worked for the last 18 years, most recently as a member of the Singapore management committee and leader of group legal in the city-state for the last six years. Concurrently, he was head of legal for the global wealth management business in South Asia and Japan, as well as the credit and products legal teams in Hong Kong.

Previously, he oversaw the legal team for the Taiwan wealth management business. Huen started his career in the US representing various global investment banks and corporate clients.

«[Huen's] deep familiarity in private banking legal in the Asia Pacific region will be a strong value-add to the key business growth areas of Bank of Singapore. We are delighted to welcome him to [...] as a partner and counsellor in driving meaningful transformation,» commented Moo.
