The Singaporean bank has launched an initiative inviting students from Singapore’s local universities to challenge the status quo and to redefine banking.

DBS Bank has launched a search for UNI.CORN talents among Singapore’s leading universities as the bank looks to redefine banking. The DBS UNI.CORN Internship invites students to propose how they would solve real consumer problems using their creativity in business and marketing, design and coding skills.

The challenge is part of DBS’ drive to change mindsets around innovation education, and nurture entrepreneurs who can introduce new ideas to bolster Singapore’s status as an international financial centre.

Encouraging Innovation

«In recent years, more and more Singaporeans have been following the entrepreneurship path. We want to encourage more university graduates to follow their creativity directly from their education days either in startups or in innovative companies like DBS. We strongly believe that this is imperative to driving a strong culture of innovation in Singapore and to support Singapore’s future as a Smart Nation,» said Neal Cross, Chief Innovation Officer for DBS.

Winning students will be invited to DBS’s 12-week UNI.CORN internship programme where they will receive training and mentorship from DBS Innovation Group, DBS Executives and collaborate with startups from the DBS HotSpot Pre-accelerator Bootcamp.

During the UNI.CORN internship, applicants will be able to work on their new businesses and ideas solving real consumer needs, building on their original concepts with support from DBS.

Tech Track Record

The DBS UNI.CORN Internship follows on from the success of DBS’ HotSpot Pre-accelerator programme which the bank launched to encourage start-up innovation in Singapore. One of the successful teams emerging out from its pre-accelerator programme was Travez, a one-stop travel platform that aims to provide people with travel ‘genies’ to plan their travel needs. The startup was founded by students who had been interning at DBS and working on innovation projects within the bank.
