Hong Kong re-appointed Julia Leung to oversee financial intermediaries in the territory, and promoted her to an influential strategy post as well.

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) said it re-appointed Julia Leung as its executive director for intermediaries, the overseer said in a statement. Leung, a former long-time journalist for «The Wall Street Journal» in Asia, was also promoted to deputy chief executive for three years, with immediate effect.

She will assist CEO Ashley Alder on policy as well as on longer-term strategy. The move represents a steep career trajectory for Leung, who joined the SFC three years ago in its investment products division and took over as intermediaries in 2016.
