Allianz Group’s asset management arm has announced the appointment of a new head of Japan.

Allianz Global Investor has appointed Taro Shiroyama as head of Japan, according to a statement, effective April 1. Based in Tokyo, he reports to head of Asia Pacific Desmond Ng. In the role, Shiroyama will be responsible for spearheading the firm's business development in Japan and overseeing key clients and stakeholders to enhance its presence in the country.

Shiroyama has over 25 years of experience in Japan’s asset management industry. He previously served as Japan country head for M&G Investments since 2016. Prior to that, he spent 14 years at PIMCO Japan in various senior positions to manage institutional and retail client relationships and product development. He began his career with Goldman Sachs Asset Management in Japan.

17-Year Predecessor

Shiroyama succeeds Yoshikazu Kobashi who will retire from his executive position. He will continue to serve as a non-executive chairman for the Japan office until the end of September to facilitate a smooth transition.

«We are […] truly thankful for Yoshikazu Kobashi’s significant contributions and commitment over the past 17 years, which have been instrumental in establishing a solid foundation and progressive business strategy, resulting in the impressive growth of our local business,» Ng commented.
