The Royal Bank of Canada’s private banking arm has named a permanent head for Asia.

RBC Wealth Management appoints Rod Ireland as head of wealth management for Asia, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia. He has been the interim regional head since August after replacing Terence Chow, who left after 18 years with the Canadian lender.

Ireland first joined RBC in 1998 before becoming head of the Australian business in 2013. He relocated to Asia in 2017 to become head of APAC global markets, a role he will continue to retain.

In Asia, RBC Wealth Management has two booking centers in Hong Kong and Singapore, a representative office in Beijing and an operations hub in Malaysia. It has a strategic focus on eight client markets in the region including Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
