An Asia private banking veteran formerly from Deutsche Bank has joined the international wealth arm of Japan’s Nomura.

Anurag Mahesh will join Nomura’s international wealth management (IWM) business later this year as coverage head for Southeast Asia, global South Asia and Middle East, according to a statement, subject to regulatory clearance. In the newly created role, he will be based in Singapore and report to head of IWM Ravi Raju.

Mahesh has 30 years of wealth management and investment product experience. He was most recently vice chairman of wealth management in Asia Pacific for Deutsche Bank, rejoining after a prior stint as its global head of key client partners. He was also UBS’s former co-head of global family offices for APAC and previously spent 13 years at Citibank in various roles in the region.

Front Office Growth

Year-to-date, Nomura has hired 23 new private bankers, including four managing directors. Over the past three years, the Japanese lender has added around 70 private bankers.

«We have made tremendous progress over the past three years in building our wealth management platform, more than doubling assets under management,» commented Raju.

«To have someone of [Mahesh’s] caliber and experience join us will enhance our growing presence and capabilities, and demonstrate that we continue to attract top talent.»
