One of the most renowned female veterans of Singapore's financial sector has passed away at the age of 84.

Singapore financial veteran Elizabeth Sam passed away on September 11 at the age of 84, according to a «Business Times» report citing a family member. Sam is one of the industry’s most renowned individuals, having started her career at the Ministry of Finance in the 1960s. 

She worked at the Monetary Authority of Singapore from 1971 to 1981, including as its chief manager, before working at London-listed Mercantile House Holdings until 1987. From 1988 to 1998, Sam worked at OCBC, including as its executive vice president and deputy president. She was also the two-term chairman of the Singapore International Monetary Exchange (Simex) from 1987 to 1993.

Previously, Sam also held board roles at Straits Trading, Banyan Tree, SC Global Development, AV Jennings Development and Kasikornbank. She was also an avid ballroom dancer, having regularly participated in competitions following retirement.
