HSBC has hired an electronic fund transfer specialist as the new head of its mobile wallet business PayMe.

Brad Jones joins HSBC as head of PayMe, according to a statement, effective May 29. He will be tasked with driving PayMe’s growth and devise a development roadmap. 

Prior to the appointment, Jones was the chief executive of Wave Money, a mobile financial services provider in Myanmar. Previously, he worked at Visa in Asia Pacific, North Africa and the Middle East. He also advised the World Bank Group in various markets including the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh and China.

3 Million Users

PayMe is a well-established mobile wallet platform in Hong Kong with 3 million users alongside 55,000 online and physical merchants. According to the bank, PayMe plays a «pivotal role in the digitization strategy and financial inclusion agenda of HSBC’s wealth and personal banking business in Hong Kong».

«With its wide popularity, we’re proud that PayMe was chosen to support the government’s consumption voucher scheme since 2022,» added Hong Kong head of wealth and personal banking Maggie Ng.

Current PayMe head Dharini Kennan Hemant will continue to lead the business until Jones joins the team on May 29 before taking up another global role within HSBC.
