Peter Hody is taking on the editor's chair at finews.ch from co-founder Claude Baumann. The move also augurs changes for finews.asia, a two-year-old editorial push into Asian finance.

Peter Hody took over the editorship of online finance publication finews.ch from Claude Baumann this month. Hody joined the publication five years ago, and has been deputy editor-in-chief since 2016.

For his part, Baumann will focus on his role as Chief Executive of the finews platform, which has grown to include finews.asia and finews.com alongside finews.ch. He will continue to contribute editorially, and will also focus on the strategic development of finews.asia, launched in 2016 with a bureau in Singapore.

«Peter Hody has shown great authority and expertise in the last four years, both editorially and operationally. I am very pleased about his promotion to editor-in-chief, which is the logical next step,» Baumann (pictured above) said. «We want to make better use of the synergies between the newsrooms in Zurich and in Singapore.»

Three-Brand Strategy

finews.ch, founded in 2008, has been profitable for several years. The speciality website tallies 260,000 Unique Clients (returning viewers), 560,000 visits, and 1.25 million page impressions according to Google Analytics data. finews.asia was launched two years ago, and is currently expanding.

The 49-year-old Hody, a historian who graduated from the Hamburg Media School with an MBA in media management, has held several senior roles at business and economic publications, including former business newspaper «Cash» and the equity magazine «Stocks». Previously, he was based in Zurich for the «Associated Press» and worked as a correspondent in Switzerland's capital for broadcaster «RTL/ProSieben».

He is an expert on Swiss finance as well as fintech, and has written extensively on digitization in the industry. «Claude Baumann and I have had a very fruitful and successful collaboration in recent years. I am honored to be tasked with continuing finews.ch's growth path,» Hody said.
