In view of the ever-increasing importance of regulation for the finance industry, Vontobel has named a former UBS manager and lawyer as its new General Counsel.

Enrico Friz (pictured above) has been named as the new General Counsel of Vontobel with effect from 1 January 2017 and will head the Legal, Compliance & Tax department. He will succeed Martin Taufer, who has decided to leave the company at the end of 2016 to pursue a new professional challenge, finews.com revealed last week.

With the appointment of Friz, Vontobel is gaining a legal expert who is recognized in the banking world in Switzerland and beyond. He already knows the company after working for it in an advisory capacity.

Extensive Experience in Financial Products

Following the completion of his studies at the University of Fribourg, Enrico Friz began his career in the late 1980s at UBS, where he served as Legal Counsel from 1993 to 1998 and had global responsibility for advising the Group Trading and Risk Management division, with teams in Zurich, London, New York, Frankfurt and Singapore. After gaining 10 years of experience in banking, Friz joined the renowned Swiss law firm Walder Wyss, which specializes in commercial law.

Furthermore, Friz has gained extensive experience in the area of financial products, including in his role as the longstanding Head Legal and Regulations of the Swiss Structured Products Association (SSPA) and through his work in other European and national associations.

A Proven Expert

Friz is also a member of the group of experts for the new Swiss Federal Financial Services Act (FIDLEG) and the new Financial Market Infrastructure Act (FINfraG).

«Particularly in view of the ever-increasing importance of regulation for the finance industry, we are delighted that Enrico Friz – a proven expert with extensive knowledge of Swiss and international legal and regulatory developments – is to assume responsibility for the Legal, Compliance & Tax department at Vontobel,» Vontobel CEO Zeno Staub said.
