According to media reports Cartier the luxury French watchmaker and legendary jeweler is said to be joining the growing ranks of designer brands by trimming prices for watches in Hong Kong.

Earlier this year Geneva based Patek Philippe made significant cuts to its prices following the removal of the currency cap by the Swiss National Bank.

Other luxury producers such as Prada, Dior and Chanel have been calibrating their Asian prices as the Euro slips and the conspicuous Chinese consumption weakens.

As more mainland tourists have headed for Paris parallel trading has also begun to nibble at the healthy margins the luxury brand manufacturers have enjoyed.

However despite the careful calculations in pricing the top end Cartier watches remain an aspirational timepiece for many.
