Summit participants who test positive for Covid while in Hong Kong could reportedly be allowed to leave via private jet.

While Hong Kong has not announced any more significant loosening of border controls, it is considering to allow attendees of the upcoming global banking summit to leave the city by private jet should they test positive for Covid, according to a «Bloomberg» report citing unnamed sources.

The condition for a private jet exit is that the individual tested positive be required to be kept in isolation while traveling from the hotel to the airport and when awaiting their flight. If not, they will be subject to existing Hong Kong rules for isolation in their hotel room and will not be able to leave on a commercial flight.

No Exemptions

The reported move contrasts with previous exemptions made for actor Nicole Kidman and JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon to move freely in Hong Kong last year which led to public backlash over unfair treatment.

The upcoming summit is expected to feature about 200 participants from over 100 global financial firms. In the latest, the event was extended to include a third day featuring top executives from global asset managers as panelists, including Carlyle, BNY Mellon Investment Management and State Street Global Advisors.
