Offshore law firm Carey Olsen's team acted as lead Counsel on the launch of first-time fund AVI Frontier Fund I.

The fund will invest in a series of South-East Asian companies listing on the Vietnamese Stock Exchange and allows investors to hand pick which companies they want to invest in.

The fund is structured as a Jersey limited partnership under Jersey's Jersey Private Fund (JPF) regime, launched in March, and offers streamlining advantages for the establishment of private investment funds.

Partner Robin Smith and Counsel Chris Griffin led the Carey Olsen team, assisted by Associate Katrina LindsayViet Capital Securities has been appointed as its local Vietnamese investment adviser. 

«It is an interesting time for the South East Asian markets, particularly Vietnam, as it transitions from a frontier to an emerging market,» said Richard Chilvers, founder and CEO at AVI Frontier Fund.

The law firm has been increasing its Asian footprint in recent years.

Carey Olsen opened its Hong Kong office in November 2016 following the successful launch of its Singapore office in October 2015.
