The former head of the ultra-high net worth team at UBS has been appointed into a newly created role at J. Safra Sarasin.

J. Safra Sarasin has named Vinay Gandhi as Chief Executive for ultra-high net worth in Asia, a newly created division, as it continues its organic growth strategy in the region.

Based in Singapore, Gandhi will report to Hong Kong based Enid Yip, Asia CEO. In the new role, Gandhi will manage ultra-rich clients across all Asia markets, the bank said in a press release.

He joins from UBS, where he had worked for the past seven years, most recently as the head of UNHW in southeast Asia with a team of 150 in Singapore and Hong Kong for clients primarily in Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as global non-resident Indian clients.

Aggressive Hiring Strategy

Prior to that, Gandhi ran Deutsche Bank AG’s south Asian private banking division in Singapore.

Gandhi also held senior management positions with Citigroup Private Bank and Commerzbank AG in Asia.

Last year J.Safra Sarasin made several senior additions to its Singapore business: It hired Benedikt Maissen as CEO and appointed Sutarmin Lili to push into the Indonesian market.

In November 2016 the bank created a new role as head external asset managers and intermediaries in Asia, and appointed Peter Buehler to the job.
