The former chief investment officer of Japan’s pension fund has joined American index provider MSCI.

MSCI appoints Hiromichi Mizuno as a special advisor to the CEO, according to a statement. In the role, he will provide the index provider with «strategic counsel, thought leadership and industry engagement».

From 2015 to 2020, Mizuno was the executive managing director and chief investment officer of the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) of Japan, the largest pension fund in the world with approximately $1.4 trillion in assets under management. Other notable previous roles Mizuno held include special envoy of the UN Secretary General on innovative finance and sustainable investments and Tesla board director.

Currently, he serves as mission committee member of Danne, board director of LiveWire Group as well as research and policy advisor council member at CFA Institute.
