HSBC has announced a successor to chief financial officer Ewen Stevenson after three years in the role.

HSBC appoints Georges Elhedery as chief financial officer and executive director of the board of directors, according to a statement, effective January 1 next year. Elhedery succeeds Ewen Stevenson who will step down from the role on December 31 and leave the bank in April 2023. 

Prior to the appointment, Elhedery was the co-chief executive of global banking and markets since March 2020. Previously, he also held various other senior roles including global head of markets, North Africa and Turkey CEO, Middle East and North Africa head of global banking and markets and more.

Stevenson joined HSBC in December 2018 and was named group CFO in January 2019.

In addition, Greg Guyett has been appointed CEO of global banking and markets, effective immediately. He will take over as the sole lead of the unit after joining HSBC in October 2018 and being named co-CEO of global banking and markets in March 2020.

«As the bank approaches the end of its three-year transformation program, the board has taken the opportunity to review the composition of the group executive committee with a particular focus on long-term succession planning,» the statement said.
