Renowned former Bank of America executive Samuel Bickett has been banned from Hong Kong and returned to the U.S. following a multi-year legal battle for assaulting a policeman during the 2019 pro-democracy protests.

Samuel Bickett said he was banned from the city after being released from prison in a multi-year battle with the government.

According to a social media post by Bickett, he was transferred from prison directly to the Immigration Detention before heading on a plane to Washington via Istanbul.

Bickett was charged with the assault of a plainclothes policeman chasing a fare dodger in December 2019 and lost his appeal last month. Bickett said the policeman was «beating and choking» the young man with a baton before he intervened.

«Fight For Hong Kong From Abroad»

According to the post, Bickett will return to Washington to see his family before «exploring how [he] can best contribute to the fight for Hong Kong from abroad».

«The fight for truth and justice in Hong Kong was never going to be easy, nor won quickly. But it is worthwhile,» said Bickett, who has been vocal on media in recent years about the rule of law in Hong Kong.

«And I have faith that one day, I will be able to once again walk the streets of a Hong Kong ruled by law and government with the consent of its people.»
