The British lender has appointed a chief executive officer of its insurance operations in Singapore, ahead of the completion of a deal to acquire Axa Singapore.

HSBC Singapore has appointed insurance industry executive Ho Lee Yen as CEO of its insurance operations, the bank announced on Thursday.

Ho brings over 25 years’ experience in the industry, and has strong sectoral expertise from a variety of senior executive roles across actuarial, partnership distribution, marketing, customer solutions and propositions as well as agency distribution. She left AIA in August 2021, after 10 years in various positions including chief partnership officer, chief customer and marketing officer and most recently chief distribution officer.

She reports to Bryce Johns, and will be part of the HSBC Singapore and HSBC Life global executive committees.

Growth Plans

HSBC said its recent acquisition of Axa Singapore for $575 million, is key to achieving its goal of becoming a leading wealth manager in Asia.

«Singapore is a strategically important market for HSBC globally and a gateway to Southeast Asia. A key pillar in our wealth growth ambitions is to support individuals, companies and their employees with their health and wealth needs,» Kee Joo Wong, HSBC chief executive officer, said in the statement.

Following deal completion, which is subject to regulatory approval, the intention is to merge the operations of HSBC Insurance (Singapore) and AXA Singapore.
