Humanoid robot Sophia sold a digital artwork in non-fungible token form for nearly $700,000 at a recent auction.
The artwork – created in collaboration with Italian digital artist Andrea Bonaceto – is titled «Sophia Instantiation» involving a 12-second MP4 file of Bonaceto’s portrait morphing into a digital painting. It is also accompanied by a physical artwork of a Sophia painting of its own self-portrait.
The artwork was sold on digital marketplace «Nifty Gateway» for $688,888 in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT).
Humanoid robot Sophia was created in 2016 by Hong Kong-based David Hanson of Hanson Robotics.
