The explosion in personal wealth across China compelled U.S. banking giant Citi to adjust its offering to high net worth customers.

Citibank in China unveiled new products and services for Citigold, the company said in a media statement on Tuesday. This client segment targets affluent customers with assets under management of one million Chinese renminbi and more.

China’s total size of individually-held assets is five times what is was a decade ago, reaching 188 trillion renminbi, according to Citi's research. This makes China the second-largest individual asset market after the U.S.

To match the rampant growth of personal wealth in China, the U.S. bank aims to increase the number of relationship managers serving affluent customers in the country by 18 percent this year.
