Australian bank Westpac announced several appointments to its Asian business units.

The Sydney headquartered bank has named Frances Cheung as head of Macro Strategy, Asia, further expanding its Financial Markets capability in the region and globally. Cheung joins Westpac from Société Générale where she was head of Rates Strategy, Asia ex-Japan, the bank said in a press release.

She has 17 years of experience as an economist and rates strategist covering Asian economies and markets and was previously head of Asian Rates Strategy with Credit Agricole, and also spent five years with Standard Chartered Bank. She will be based in Singapore and will report to Sneha Sanghvi, head of Financial Markets, Asia in Singapore and David Goodman, head of Macro Strategy in Sydney.

China Move

The bank has also strengthened its Structured Commodities Finance (SCF) team with two new appointments. Zongyuan Li joins the team as a director and Nikita Kabanovs as an associate director.

Based in Shanghai and reporting to Paul Gardner, global head of Structured Commodity Finance and June Fu, general manager of Westpac’s Shanghai branch, Li will help the SCF team to further grow its capabilities in the region.

Based in Singapore, Kabanovs will report to Kevin Khoo, director, Structured Commodity Finance, Asia and support the team with his extensive experience in repo and prepayments within both oil and soft commodities.
