The Zurich based private bank Julius Baer is extending its Wealth Management team with a prominent hire from UBS in Singapore, as finews.asia reveals.

Alberto Martinelli 500 copyAlberto Martinelli (pictured below) has recently joined Julius Baer in Singapore to become Head of Special Clients. A spokesman confirmed this information to finews.asia.

As Julius Baer is remodeling its private banking services under the guidance of Barend Fruithof in Switzerland and Jimmy Lee in Singapore a new unit has been created, devoted to the business with Ultra High-Net-Worth Individuals (UHNWI).

The business with the very rich has been put into the hands of Christian Blum, who has joined the bank with a team of experienced client advisers this month from Credit Suisse. Blum has worked for two decades at Switzerland's second-biggest bank and last was head of a Global Citizens Zurich team, working with the ultra wealthy.

Blum has taken Rouven Bazlen and Moritz Schmidt to Julius Baer in Zurich. In Singapore it is the Italian Martinelli, from UBS, who has joined with a team.

Martinelli started his career in banking more than 20 years ago at Ticino’s Cornèr Bank, before he moved to UBS in 2000 where he first worked as a private banker in Lugano; in 2005 he was promoted to Singapore where he was responsible for clients from southern European countries.

In July 2013 he became Head of Global Investor APAC, responsible for Established European Countries in APAC. Parallel to this Martinelli is the Treasurer of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.
