Herbert Smith Freehills has opened its Kuala Lumpur office and added an Islamic Finance expert to its team.

On the back of receiving approval for the Malaysian unit the firm has appointed Islamic finance lawyer Azlin Ahmad as a senior associate in the new office.

She joins partners Peter Godwin, Vic Tang, and Glynn Cooper, who were named last month as the office’s leaders.

In her new role Ahmad will work closely with senior members of the firm's Islamic finance practice, who will work in Kuala Lumpur on a regular basis.

«Azlin is a great addition to our launch team in Kuala Lumpur, her understanding of regional and international banks, corporates, regulators and governments active in the Islamic finance market makes her a valuable addition to the new office and the firm's global practice in this area,» said Godwin.
