A former UBS Unit head will take over the role of Market Group Head Thailand at rival bank Credit Suisse. The incumbent will be taking an extended leave of absence.

According to an internal memo seen by finews.asia, Urs Grueter will be joining Credit Suisse on Monday, October 24 as a Managing Director and will assume the role of Market Group Head Thailand as of January 1, 2017, reporting to Benjamin Cavalli, Head of Southeast Asia, Private Banking.

Grueter joins Credit Suisse from UBS Wealth Management where he worked for 17 years, mainly in Singapore, and most recently as one of the Southeast Asia International heads.

He has covered Southeast Asian markets for most of his career, and has built up a strong record both as a producer and a manager. Grueter departed UBS earlier this year as finews.asia reported at the time.

Leave of Absence

Also in the memo Christian Senn, Market Group Head Thailand, informed the bank that he will be taking an extended leave of absence for up to 12 months starting from January 1, 2017, to focus on family commitments.

Since taking on leadership of the Thailand market in 2014, Senn has led the team, growing the market and asset base, while also launching the new onshore wealth management business earlier this year, and building up a new team of quality and experienced talent.

A 27-year veteran of Credit Suisse Private Banking, Senn said he was committed to returning to the bank.
