Credit Suisse has made a senior appointment to its Investment Banking and Capital Markets team in China, a strategically critical market for the Swiss bank.

Honggui Li has joined the bank as a Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets (IBCM), China, effective immediately, according to a memo seen by finews.asia.

Li has in excess of 16 experience years in the financial industry and has developed long-standing relationships with leading Chinese companies. He joined UBS AG in Beijing in 2006, where he was a Managing Director, and became Co-Head of Investment Banking for UBS Securities in Beijing in 2012.

He relocated to Hong Kong in late 2013, as Deputy Head of China in UBS AG’s Corporate Client Solutions department. Prior to UBS, Honggui was with China Galaxy Securities.

Strategically Important for Credit Suisse

In his new role Li will report to Mervyn Chow and Edwin Low, the co-heads of IBCM, Asia Pacific and will work closely with Zeth Hung and George Chow, co-heads of IBCM, Greater China.

As a senior leader of the Credit Suisse (CS) China business unit, Li will be responsible for broadening the China corporate coverage efforts, coordinating onshore investment banking operations, (including CS joint venture with Founder Securities), and collaborating with other APAC departments on onshore opportunities.

Earlier this year Credit Suisse made several senior appointments to its Shanghai and Beijing IBCM teams.
