Emerging markets and Asian centric Standard Chartered bank has announced the appointment of a new Global Head, Commodities, Financial Markets.

Cengiz Belentepe takes up the new role, he will be based in Singapore and will report to Jonathan Paul, Global Head, Financial Markets, the bank said in a statement.

Belentepe will be responsible for Standard Chartered’s Commodities business globally to provide commodities trading, hedging, financing and investment solutions to the Bank’s clients. The business unit has on-the-ground presence in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, London and New York.

Commodities Part of Standard Chartered’s DNA

A seasoned banking professional Belentepe has over 20 years of broad commodities experience. He was most recently Global Head of Commodities at Barclays Non-Core Division with responsibility for the metals and energy businesses.

Prior to that, he led the restructuring and turnaround of the base and precious metals trading business at Barclays globally. Cengiz previously founded and ran a quantitative CTA fund, and holds a Ph.D in Statistics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
