Global business consultancy group Bain & Company, has named a new Managing Director to its Greater China practice which covers Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong. 

Weiwen Han who will take on the role from October 1, 2016, will be responsible for leading growth, operations, people and brand strategy for Greater China the firm said today. Han will focus on further developing local talent and expertise to better serve clients in the region as well as guiding the Greater China practice through its next wave of growth.

Han’s appointment, announced by Bob Bechek, Bain’s worldwide Managing Director, and Dale Cottrell, head of the firm’s Asia Pacific (APAC) region, coincides with Bain’s 25th anniversary in Greater China.

Servant Leader – Leadership Rotation

Han has nearly 20 years of management consulting experience and has helped many mid- and large-sized global and Chinese companies develop strategy, improve their performance and upgrade their management capabilities, including organization, operations and IT.

Most recently, he was a partner in the firm’s Private Equity practice and a senior member of its Digital, Consumer Products and Retail practices. He is also actively engaged in Bain’s Developing Market 100 initiative.

Michael Thorneman, who served as managing director of Bain Greater China for eight years, will return to advising the firm’s private equity and corporate clients in China. The move is part of Bain’s «servant leader» model in which partners regularly rotate into leadership roles and then back to full-time client work.
