Standard Chartered Private Bank has announced the appointment of a new Regional Head, Private Banking, Greater China and North Asia, effective January 2017.

In her new role, Vivian Chan will be responsible for leading Standard Chartered’s Private Banking team and growing the business in Greater China and North Asia, with a strategic focus on the Hong Kong market as a core global wealth hub, the bank said in a press release.

She will be based in Hong Kong and report to Didier von Daeniken, Global Head, Private Banking & Wealth Management.

Veteran in Private Banking

Chan is a veteran in the private banking industry with more than 30 years of experience and expertise in building businesses and managing ultra high net worth (UHNW) client relationships.

She will take over from Desmond Liu, who has successfully led the Private Banking business regionally since 2012. Desmond will retire from the Bank at the end of 2016, after more than 30 years in private banking.

 Ex-Barclays Bankers

She joins Standard Chartered from Barclays where she was Regional Head of North Asia, Private Banking, since 2013. Prior to this, she held senior leadership roles at Credit Suisse and Citibank.

Earlier this month the bank appointed another ex Barclays banker Srinivas Siripurapu into the role of Regional Head, Private Banking, ASEAN & South Asia and Global Head, Non-Resident Indian.

«Our Private Banking and Wealth Management business in this region is of critical importance to Standard Chartered’s long-term growth strategy,» von Daeniken said.
