One of the U.K.’s leading private client investment managers and the largest in South Africa, Investec Wealth & Investment, has announced the opening of its business in Hong Kong.

Investec’s operations in Asia go back to the late 90’s when Investec Bank Limited established a representative office in the region. This was followed by the Group’s acquisition of Hambros PLC and Guinness Flight in 1998 which led to Investec Asset Management establishing a presence in Hong Kong.

In a press release the company said the new Investec Wealth & Investment team will offer bespoke discretionary and advisory investment management services to Professional Investors, including high-net-worth individuals, trusts, charities and clients of financial advisers, with a focus on the affluent Chinese and expatriate markets in Hong Kong.

Not One Size Fits all

“The focus is very much on service rather than product, and our client-centric approach is evidenced by the longevity of our relationships. Many of our clients in the UK and Europe, and in South Africa have been with us for over 20 years. We are well suited to the unique needs of the Chinese and expatriate markets in Hong Kong. We don’t believe in putting clients in predetermined boxes or promoting ‘off-the-shelf’ solutions,» said Catherine Kirchmann, Divisional Director and Head of the Wealth & Investment business in Hong Kong.

Globally, Investec Wealth & Investment has funds under management of £44.6 billion.
